King of Hearts by Kay David #Serial #GuestPost #Giveaway

Tour Banner - King of Hearts

**From Kay David**

King of Hearts is my latest Entangled Ignite and I’m giving my readers a taste of what happens before the book opens. Jessie Delacourt and Kingson Landry, my heroine and hero, met briefly in Texas Hold‘Em, the initial book in my Smokin’ ACES series. At that point, King thought Jessie was a rough and tumble biker chick. Only later does he learn she’s a Texas Ranger working undercover. Reading about their explosive one night encounter will definitely make you want to the book! The beautiful earrings I’m giving away to one lucky commenter will leave you looking as gorgeous as Jessie!

I’ve posted my schedule on my website, and at Follow the series of blogs and you might also win a beautiful pair of earrings that will never let you forget King of Hearts. Now, on to the fun stuff…

No matter what Jessie does or who she really is, King knew he was in trouble the minute she pulled into the parking lot on her white Harley Softail. Bad trouble. The kind of trouble that makes him wake up in the middle of the night and not be able to go back to sleep trouble.

He took another sip of his beer and glanced around the Ice House, the local scuzzy biker bar. Most law enforcement types he knew stayed away from places like the Ice House unless they were arresting someone, but King had other reasons for being there. He suspected that might be the same for Jessie. Whatever it was, be it personal or professional, she’d better watch her back. It was a dangerous place.

Behind him, music blared where he was sitting outside at one of the scarred picnic tables. The bar liked to serve its customers underneath its covered patio on the theory it might cut down on the damage when everyone started to fight. It didn’t.

His stare went back to Jessie as he tipped his beer bottle again, took a long swallow, then let it slide through his fingers to thud on the table.

Smokin’ ACES was the cover name of Jessie’s undercover motorcycle gang because they supposedly liked to play poker and race their Harleys. As far as he was concerned, smokin’ was the only word he could have used to describe the redhead.

When she climbed off the lucky bike she rode, he got a better look at what she wore: worn jeans, a tiny camisole, and a vest with fringe. It was such a biker girl cliché that he would have laughed at the get-up if he’d seen it anywhere else, but at this bar, every woman had on a variation of the outfit. Leather, denim, everything tight as shit. But none of the other ladies wore it like she did. He swallowed hard and stared as she moved across the parking lot toward him.

And move she did. With endless legs in dark denim so tight it looked as if it’d been painted on. How long would it take him to peel off those jeans, he wondered idly? A few seconds, he answered, but it’d feel like forever.

Without a glance in his direction, she walked toward him. He narrowed his eyes. He didn’t think it was possible but the closer she got, the better she looked.

Jessie clearly gets a second look—and a second and a third—from King, but as we all know, in real life first impressions don’t always go this smoothly. Share the most memorable impression you’ve ever made, and be sure to keep reading the blogs to find out what happens when Jessie enters the Ice House.

King Of Hearts Cover

They were standing by the edge of the highway when she caught the unmistakable sound of a Harley suddenly slicing the deep silence that surrounded them. The V-twin engine was howling and the rider coming on fast, even faster than the one that’d aimed for them at the Ice House.

In a twisted way, the motorcycle’s speed was also reassuring. There was no way the blown bike could stop; supercharged motorcycles defined the word speed. Whoever it was, a replay of the other night was not in the works. The rider would have crashed the bike had he tried to halt its progress in time to stop beside them.

Without thinking, she took a step back from the pavement. At the same time, King whipped his ticket book from his back pocket. They had to have a reason to be seen together, and a speeding fine was as good as any.

A blur topped the nearest rise. If she had to guess, she would say the motorcycle was passing the 120 mph on the gauge, maybe more. The driver and rider both wore helmets, but that wasn’t going to help them if they had to eat asphalt.

With an almost surreal speed, a blue Harley dipped over the horizon and screamed by. If she hadn’t seen a couple of dry bushes shaking from its passage, Jessie might have thought she had imagined the whole thing. The smell of hot exhaust reassured her that the motorcycle had been for real. It would have been a difficult task, if not an impossible one, to catch up. Cursing and wondering if she should try regardless, Jessie started to walk back onto the pavement, but she stumbled over the asphalt’s crumbling edge. King instantly reached out to steady her.

The warmth of his fingers against her elbow rippled up her arm and headed for her chest, her pulse accelerating faster that the motorcycle that had just passed. She wasn’t prepared for the reaction. Or for what happened next.

King didn’t release her. His gaze darkened. Her heart raced. And without a single second’s warning, their lips came together.

It wasn’t a kiss that they shared; it was an explosion. The same kind that had brought them together the first time. Memories of that night rolled over her as King’s mouth covered hers. His hands, rough in their neediness, yanked her against him and she melted into his arms, her desire suddenly rising under the hot Texas sky. She didn’t know which sensation to concentrate on first; his lips, his touch, even the smell of his skin. Each demanded its own reaction, and her body took over, her own hands feverishly pulling him to her .

She had dated plenty of men and bedded more than one but nothing she’d experienced could compare to what she shared with King the one night they’d been together. As they kissed on the dusty side of a lonely west Texas highway, she suddenly remembered why she felt that way.
